Paraben is an antimicrobial additive. It’s found in almost every topical product from shaving cream to eye shadow. Paraben is reported to be non-toxic and completely harmless. However, paraben may have a nasty side effect. It may turn testosterone into estrogen.
According to a study done by the 2007 Summit on Environmental Challenges to Reproductive Health and Fertility, testosterone concentrations in men worldwide have declined 1% per year over the 40 years. Its reasonable for me to think that estorogen levels may have increased in women too.
Perhaps paraben, this supposedly non-toxic additive, is partly responsible for early menopause or even early puberty in women and later blooming in men. Perhaps more studies need to be done.
What I do know is raising or lowering hormone levels synthetically leads to increased health risks. Body builder and professional athletes pumped with steroids this. Doctors do do.
I avoid paraben. I feel avoiding paraben is important for my long term health and well being. Here is a list of paraben free companies, if you chose to avoid paraben as well.
